“I want to go to the carnival!” I said.

“It will be fun,” I said. “We eat fried dough and ride the tilt-a-whirl!”

Well, it did turn out fun, though it was not the most lavish carnival ever (no tilt-a-whirl!?). We rode the ferris wheel, ate the aforementioned fried dough and Pat won me some truly sophisticated artwork.

Games of skill and strength. And corndogs.

Emily’s love of sparkly tiaras has inspired some very intriguing wedding planning ideas, such as having a Bedazzling station at the reception, in case guests feel like their outfits are not already sufficiently rhinestone-bedecked. I will let you, dear reader, decide for yourself whether I am joking.

Every time Pat would finish tossing or spinning or flinging this young man (the son of some friends), he would look up at Pat and ask, in polite and sweet tones, “What game do you want to play now?”

I am not even sure what compelled me to take this picture, to run back inside upon seeing the bird and grab the camera. But I discovered, some days later, that while I was getting this shot, some of my cousins were driving by, themselves wondering what I found so interesting.
